Charity Association of St. George Bann is the representative body of the majority of the Bann community in Australia. Since our inception in 1960, we’ve been committed to serve and support the Bann community through charity work.
We’re a community of over 500 members, driven by a shared passion for serving our community, particularly those in need. Our funding primarily relies on our member’s generous contributions and support.
The principal activities of the Association have always been and will continue to be charity. The Association continues its operations as a charity with donations and fund raising activities continuing to be a major contributor to income. The funding is therefore dependent upon the Association’s member’s contributions and support.
Our Objectives
Bann Association is a charitable institution established in 1959 to provide benevolent relief to persons who are experiencing poverty or distress, including sickness, disability, destitution, suffering, misfortune, helplessness and other forms of disadvantage (Disadvantaged Persons), whether in Australia or in Lebanon.
The Association will achieve these objects by:
(i) providing financial support for Disadvantaged Persons in order to alleviate their disadvantage;
(ii) providing practical support for Disadvantaged Persons, including by undertaking health, education and building projects, in order to alleviate
their disadvantage;
(iii) promoting the education and development of young Disadvantaged Persons of Lebanese and Australian descent, including the encouragement of higher school and tertiary studies;
(iv) assisting with the care of elderly and bereaved Disadvantaged Persons in Australia and those from, or with ancestry from, Bann, Lebanon.
Grants Process
The Association grants a maximum of $30,000 each year to the needy in the Bann Community, whether in Lebanon or Australia, which are approved by the Executive Committee. Members may apply for grants (a maximum of $2500 included in the $30,000), which will be reviewed, assessed and if accepted approved by the Executive Committee.
To qualify for a grant, applicants must have been members for one year. The grant must benefit a person or persons within the Bann Community that are in desperate need for immediate medical or financial assistance due to their poor conditions, and applicants must have displayed sufficient need for such grant.
